Weather: Sunny / cloud
Max Speed: average 12
Distance Covered: 36.3 mls (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Best ride of the year today despite too much head wind. Chose a 50 mile course after loading up with 3 bars and 2 bottles. The intended loop was Sproughton to Trimley high street via Claydon Westerfield Tuddenham Lev Marina, however after 15 miles ahead of my best pace averaging 14 mph - all on road the head wind was too much. Every direction east took its toll but the 2 gradients at Levington made the decision to cut the mileage to aim for 40. Instead of the marina turned before the pub to avoid 3 more steep hills and went back via the old Felixstowe road.
I lost one food bar at Purdis area so started to fade also, but remarkable I was still on track for PB on the 40 miles. HR was under control averaging 122 peaking 149, so well happy as within the ranges.
Heading back through Henley I lost the will to live, as no food and drank both bottles so alas cut the mileage by taking a short cut back to Sproughton, which left the mileage at 36, just short of the target.
This was definitely a burn out for me on flats averaging 15mph - but my climbs were a disaster zone losing all the time there. Bike is set up nice - no knee, bum, wrist pain. It’s amazing how much tweaking is required once the bike is set to standard measurements.
Would be interested to get a bike fit, to see how it measures against mine. I was still overtaken by several riders today, even at 15mph so def will still avoid group rides, unless same standard. Average cadence 59, slightly less than norm, but am trying to ride a harder gear each faze including the HITT training zones on back roads, including out of saddle work. Calories burnt 1381 on the Garmin HR pro chest, which at last matches my watch data after updates. Both also were close on average HR and peak around 149 with watch saying 169, so not far off. Going to plan a 50 miler on flat somewhere when I get a chance, but flat 10 mile loops are boring going round and round, as suggested by the guys on Strava, so need to have interest in scenery.
